粘板岩は、頁岩または火山灰が高温と高圧にさらされることで形成される岩石です。これは、地球のプレート運動と山脈の形成によって生じます。
数百万年の間に鉱物は形を変え、再結晶化し、平行なシート（「葉状構造」）になります。
粘板岩は主に石英でできており、黒雲母、白雲母、緑泥石（緑がかった色）、赤鉄鉱（赤みがかった色）、黄鉄鉱（金色の結晶）などの鉱物も含まれています。

Slate is a rock formed when shale or volcanic ash is put under both high heat and pressure. This results from the movement of Earth’s tectonic plates and the creation of mountains.
Over millions of years the minerals change shape, recrystallize, and become parallel sheets (“foliation").
Slate is mostly made of quartz, together with minerals like biotite (“black mica”), muscovite (“white mica”), chlorite (greenish), hematite (reddish), and pyrite (golden crystals).
There is even one fossil here!
