La roverella (Quercus pubescens) è una quercia tipica dei terreni calcarei e aridi delle Murge, molto resistente alla siccità e al freddo. Nell’area di Minervino Murge, situata sul margine nord-occidentale del Parco Nazionale dell’Alta Murgia, essa rappresenta una delle principali specie forestali spontanee residue, spesso in piccoli boschi o lembi di querceto che testimoniano l’antico paesaggio murgiano. Sono presenti anche roverelle secolari, grandi esemplari sopravvissuti alle trasformazioni agricole, che oggi costituiscono veri monumenti naturali per valore ecologico e paesaggistico, indicatori di continuità ambientale e di un equilibrio antico tra uomo e ambiente collinare pugliese.

The downy oak (Quercus pubescens) is a species of oak typical of the arid, calcareous soils of the Murge, highly resistant to drought and cold. In the Minervino Murge area, located on the northwestern edge of the Alta Murgia National Park, it is one of the main remaining spontaneous forest species, often found in small stands or patches of oak groves that testify to the ancient landscape of the Murge. There are also centuries-old downy oaks, large specimens that have survived agricultural transformations and today constitute true natural monuments of ecological and landscape value, indicators of environmental continuity and an ancient balance between humanity and the Apulian hillside environment.
