Although not celebrated widely in the UK, I thought this was a nice enough reason for a geocaching event. We'll meet inside the coffee shop for some refreshments (perhaps a seasonal hot beverage) and have all the usual geocaching chat etc.
St. Nicholas Day, observed on December 6th, commemorates the death of St. Nicholas, a 4th-century bishop from Myra (modern-day Turkey). He is best known for his acts of charity, particularly his secret gift-giving, such as providing dowries for poor girls. St. Nicholas was revered for his care for the poor, sick, and children, and was later canonized as a saint. His influence spread across Europe, with many of the customs associated with Christmas and Santa Claus originating from his life and deeds.
The day is celebrated in various countries, especially in Europe, with customs varying by region. In the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, children place their shoes out overnight in hopes of receiving small gifts or treats, a tradition linked to St. Nicholas's giving nature. In some cultures, St. Nicholas is depicted with companions such as Krampus, who is said to punish misbehaving children.
