Most visitors stroll the lakeside gazebo without a second glance, never noticing the weathered stones tucked beneath its back edge. But those who venture closer, who brush aside the ivy and kneel in the dirt, may uncover something ancient—something that hums faintly with warmth even in shadow.

Long before the town, before the lake was dammed, this hillside was sacred ground. The local Lenape tribes called the spot Winkapew, “the place where the sun sleeps.” Later settlers unearthed strange carvings here—faces wreathed in rays, eyes wide as dawn. Historians argued over their origin, but one symbol appeared again and again: a stylized sun with twelve points.

It matched depictions of Tonatiuh, the Aztec Sun God.

To the Aztecs, Tonatiuh was both life and hunger—his light sustained the world, but only if fed. Warriors offered him their courage, priests their prayers, and the people their sacrifices, believing his energy kept the heavens turning. Legends said that if Tonatiuh’s temple ever fell into shadow, the world would fall with it.

No temple was ever confirmed here in the north… until now.

Recently, hikers reported seeing flickers of gold light under the gazebo at dusk, as if the last rays of sunset were being drawn toward the stones. A faint hum follows, deep and steady, like the heartbeat of the earth. The curious who’ve followed it claim to have found a relic—an idol carved with eyes of fire, grinning beneath the vines.

Locals call it the Temple of the Hidden Sun.

They say the statue still listens. Some swear that if you visit at sunset and whisper your wish into the hollow behind it, the light shifts and the air grows warm—just for a moment—as though the god himself is answering.

Your task, geocacher, is to find the resting place of the sun’s servant and honor his secret. Approach with respect. Seek the place where the sun sets low behind the lake, and light meets stone.

And remember the ancient prayer:

“Tonatiuh, great lord of the fifth sun—

Feed the day, and guard the night.”
