Geocache Description:

This place is such a great neighborhood hangout.  In the summer it's all about reading pulpy novels on one of the benches while the kids play street hockey in the circle.  In the winter it's sledding down the hill, somehow convinced that you might just make it all the way through the trees and right into the creek.  And in any season you can start a walk from these starting-co-ordinates, with a number of paths to choose from.

This mystery cache hopes to show you how communities find organic ways to make each of these kinds of fun for free, sometimes without municipal support.  (I bet you didn't even know that street hockey was technically illegal for the longest time; the ban was only lifted in 2016.)

This cache is NOT at the starting co-ordinates!  Each waypoint assigned to this cache is a park landmark containing a number that you'll need to solve for the final co-ordinates (so be sure to note down each number as you go).  If you simply go to each waypoint, you'll immediately recognize which one of the following items you can check off:

  • a wee house for words and pictures, not people (take the number of the house behind it)
  • a warning (take its municipal code #)
  • something solar-powered (take the middle 2 digits of its telephone #)
  • a trip hazard (take the last 3 digits of its year OR see * note at bottom of description)

Now you can unlock the cache's final co-ordinates!  They are...

W 79° 16.[municipal code # house #]′

N 43° 42.[last 3 digits of year # middle 2 digits of phone #]′

The cache is within the park and easily accessible (not off in the woods).  Make sure no one is passing by at the crucial moment, and please put the cache back as you found it, without mistakenly putting it in the similar hiding place nearby.  Don't force the screw top--it doesn't screw as far in as you expect.  Fun starter goodies and pencil included.

* If it's winter and you just can't uncover the # on the trip hazard, you can still deduce what it is if you know that the stated year is divisible by both 17 and 23.  Avoid winter or avoid math, you can't avoid both!
