Mitten in Trier liegt ein Ort, an dem sich über viele Jahrhunderte Fürsorge, Glauben und Alltag begegnen: die Vereinigten Hospitien. Wer heute über das Gelände spaziert, ahnt kaum, wie tief die Wurzeln dieses Ortes in die Geschichte der Stadt reichen.
Schon im Mittelalter existierten in Trier mehrere Hospitäler und klösterliche Einrichtungen, die sich um Kranke, Alte und Bedürftige kümmerten. Diese Häuser waren eng mit kirchlichem Leben verbunden und stellten eine der wenigen Formen organisierter sozialer Hilfe dar. Einen entscheidenden Wendepunkt brachte das frühe 19. Jahrhundert: In der Zeit der napoleonischen Verwaltung wurden zahlreiche dieser Einrichtungen zusammengelegt. Aus dieser Neuordnung entstand 1804 die Stiftung der Vereinigten Hospitien – mit dem Ziel, soziale Hilfe dauerhaft, strukturiert und unabhängig von einzelnen Orden zu sichern.
Die Gebäude erzählen diese Entwicklung bis heute. Klosteranlagen, Wirtschaftsgebäude und spätere Erweiterungen stehen dicht beieinander und spiegeln unterschiedliche Epochen wider. Besonders bemerkenswert ist der Weinkeller der Stiftung: Er ruht auf Fundamenten aus römischer Zeit und erinnert daran, dass Trier schon vor fast 2000 Jahren ein bedeutendes Zentrum war. Über Generationen hinweg diente der Weinbau der Stiftung nicht nur wirtschaftlichen Zwecken, sondern half auch dabei, soziale Aufgaben zu finanzieren.
Heute verbinden die Vereinigten Hospitien Vergangenheit und Gegenwart. Das Gelände ist Lebens-, Arbeits- und Erholungsraum zugleich.

Dieser Multi-Geocache lädt dich zu einem ruhigen Rundgang über das Gelände der Vereinigten Hospitien ein.

PROJECT AUGUSTA TREVERORUM
History & Chronicle
In the heart of Trier lies a place where care, faith, and everyday life have intertwined for centuries: the Vereinigte Hospitien. Those who walk across the grounds today can hardly imagine how deeply this site is rooted in the city’s history.
As early as the Middle Ages, several hospitals and monastic institutions existed in Trier, caring for the sick, the elderly, and those in need. These establishments were closely connected to religious life and represented one of the few organized forms of social welfare at the time. A decisive turning point came in the early 19th century: during the Napoleonic administration, many of these institutions were consolidated. From this reorganization, the Vereinigte Hospitien foundation was established in 1804, with the aim of ensuring long-term, structured social care independent of individual religious orders.
The buildings themselves still reflect this development today. Monastic complexes, economic buildings, and later extensions stand side by side, representing different historical periods. Particularly remarkable is the foundation’s wine cellar: it rests on Roman-era foundations and serves as a reminder that Trier was already an important center nearly 2,000 years ago. Over generations, viticulture not only supported the foundation economically but also helped finance its social mission.
Today, the Vereinigte Hospitien connect past and present. The site serves simultaneously as a place to live, work, and relax.

This multi-cache invites you to take a relaxing walk across the grounds of the Vereinigte Hospitien.
