The plantings are attributed to Dr Benjamin Marr (Langley’s first resident physician). He is said to have planted the rows of horse chestnut trees along Glover Road (in front of the cemetery) and also rhododendrons within the cemetery grounds. Dr Marr’s plantings date from the early 20th century (he arrived in Fort Langley around 1910, served in WWI, then resumed his practice; he planted the trees post-war.
These trees are part of the heritage character of Fort Langley, they help define the village’s feel.
