Geocache Description:

Congratulations to Geo-Knot for FTF!

Welcome to the sixth Geocaching Library Book of our series! We got this idea from another library book cache that we found in a free library and had the idea of putting books in public libraries. In order to find this book you will visit the posted coordinates in order to solve a math problem. Once you have solved the problem you will be able to determine the call number of the book next to our Library Book Cache. The call number that you will solve for will be located in the Adult Non-fiction section on the first floor. You can solve this mystery when the library is not open but you will need to visit the library when it is open to sign the log. You may not claim this cache without signing the log please. When arriving at the posted coordinates, you will be searching for a four digit number on the outside of the building (ABCD). The last three digits of the posted North coordinates (EFG) and the last three digits of the posted West coordinates (XYZ) are the other numbers you will need.

ABCD - EFG - XYZ + 518 = the call number

You can use the certitude link to check your solution.

About this Library:

In Boxford we are privileged to enjoy the benefits of land generously donated by long-time Boxford residents. Such is the case with our own Boxford Village Library. Upon her death in 1938, Julia Cummings bequeathed her home and $23,000 to the Boxford Library Association to be used as the town library. Julia had a life-long love of reading which began early in her childhood.

Julia Cummings was born on November 26, 1860 in Boxford. At the age of three Julia and her family moved to Middleton where her father opened a factory, manufacturing shoe knives. For twelve years her father’s business prospered, but in 1876, for unknown reasons, the family abruptly moved to Wisconsin.
By 1880 Julia and her mother returned to New England. Her father remained behind in Wisconsin and died sometime after 1900.

Back in Boxford, at 10 Elm Street, Julia and her mother became involved in the life of the community. Poetry and reading were a great source of enjoyment to Julia. Her home was next to the Bacon Library (which stood in the pony field) and because she was such a devoted reader she had her own private key to the library so she could borrow at her discretion.

Another chief interest of Julia’s was the East Parish cemetery where her involvement ranged from leaf removal to acting as secretary and treasurer. Julia never married and in 1919 with the passing of her mother she inherited the house. With no heirs, when Julia passed away in 1938 she made the generous decision to donate her home to be used as the Boxford Village Library to allow others to enjoy the love of reading as she had her entire life.
