Let your imagination take you back to the old west in the late 1800's.  The history of Yuma is more than just gunfights, trading routes, and river boats.  The hills around Yuma contain valuable minerals that attracted miners from all over the country.  The miner's life was not an easy one.  It was hard work, in rugged areas, filled with constant danger.  Imagine trying to survive, alone, in these hills during the summers as the temperature soared to well over 100 degrees… every day… for months!  Still, many adventuresome individuals came here to "make their fortunes".  Some did better than others.

We will meet in the shadow of Castle Dome, an area rich in mining history, and hear from people about the history of these mines, and the men (and families) who came here to make their living.  These are fascinating stories that you won't want to miss.  Plan on about a 45-minute drive if you're coming from downtown Yuma.  You will experience a few miles of dirt road, but it is well-maintained.  Even a Prius can make it.

Standard desert precautions apply:  bring water, sun protection, and maybe even a camp chair if you have one.  There is no fee to attend this event outside the Castle Dome Mine museum.  There may be food available for purchase, but bringing your own sack lunch is always a good idea.  Whether you are just stopping by to sign the log, or spending the entire 3 hours learning about what this area has to offer, you won't want to miss "The Miner's Life".

See you there!
