About SideTracked Caches
This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website
Cudgewa Station
Cudgewa station opened on 5 May 1921.
During its time of operation cattle and horses, timber, wool and butter, minerals as well as general goods, mail and farm materials for the local farming community were transported to and from Cudgewa. It was also used as the railhead for materials for the construction of the Snowy Mountains Hydroelectricity Scheme in the 1960s.
Passenger services were discontinued in the 1960s, and on 21 April 1978, the last regular goods train ran, with the line closing on 1 March 1981.
Most of the railway reserve is now The High Country Rail Trail.
