This event will serve as the wrap-up for the Winter Caching Games #16 (WCG16).  You do not need to complete the tasks to attend, but why not give the Winter Caching Game a try?

What is the Winter Caching Game?

The Winter Caching Game is a fun challenge to get you out of the house during the frosty days of winter.  Designed exclusively for Saskatchewan based cachers, the objective is to complete 10 tasks during the 10 weeks in which the game runs. This is not a race. 

Read the rules and task descriptions carefully and choose wisely.

There will be prizes!

 


 

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. The Winter Caching Games #16 (WCG16) runs from December 14, 2025 to February 21, 2026 inclusive.  It is not a race.

  1. Register your intention of participating on this page as a “Will Attend” no later than December 27, 2025.  Please send me a private GC message if you wish to join the games after the cut off.

  1. Complete 10 tasks during the games keeping in mind that a minimum of 1 task must be completed during December and a minimum of 2 tasks must be completed in each of January and February.  It is the Winter Caching Games after all!

  1. Caches you claim for tasks must be found and logged on Geocaching.com between December 14, 2025 and February 21, 2026.

  1. Tasks must be claimed within 7 days of finding the qualifying cache(s) which fulfill the task and no later than midnight, February 21, 2026, the end of the game.

  1. Task claims can only be made using caches published in Saskatchewan before December 14, 2025, the start of the game. 

  1. Tasks must be fulfilled using a cache previously unfound by you.

  1. Each cache find can only be applied to a single task.

  1. Adventure Labs do not qualify for any finds.

  1.  Points are clearly indicated beside each task name and are awarded on the basis of either: (Allotted Score + Difficulty + Terrain), (Difficulty + Terrain) or a Fixed Point score.  NEW THIS YEAR: points can be taken as either + or - (positive or negative).  It is your responsibility to clearly indicate your choice each time you submit a task. *EDIT Dec. 16 - unless indicated, I will assume you want positive points.

  2. Using the “Write Note” feature on this cache page, report your claims as such:

    1. Task #, Name of Task, Points Claimed (Please show your math)

    2. GC number and cache name including date found to support your claim.

  1. If multiple caches are required to complete the task, you must list all of them including the GC numbers and cache names. This will aid in verification before awarding you the points.  You may claim multiple tasks in one note, please list each task clearly and indicate your point choice of + or - (positive or negative) for each task.

  1. If creating and hiding a Cache/EarthCache/Virtual/Adventure Lab they are to be located in Saskatchewan and must be placed on or after December 14, 2025 and published prior to the conclusion of the games, February 21, 2026.  Be sure to allow time for review and publication.

  1. Once a task is claimed, you may not substitute another unless it is rejected.

  1. Multi-person teams are allowed and are defined as such: 

a.) geocaching IDs that have more than one person sharing the same ID with or without the other members present

- OR -

b.) individual cachers with individual IDs that prefer to cache as a team. 

For the purpose of the Winter Caching Games, all members of these multi-person teams must be present when finding the cache.

  1. Prizes will be awarded to: 

  • 1 cacher who completes 10 tasks and has the highest points score

  • 1 cacher who completes 10 tasks and has the lowest points score

  • 1 cacher who completes 10 tasks and finishes with a score closest to average   

  1. In the event of a tie score, the earliest score will be used as the tiebreaker.

  2. Visit Hide a cache to understand the different types of hides.

  1. I, DoryXplorey, will administer the game and my decisions are final.  I reserve the right to provide clarifications to the rules at any point during the game.

  2. Send me a message if you require any clarification and most importantly have fun and may the weather be ever in your favour!


 

TASK LIST 

Choose 10 tasks: Points are either + or - (positive or negative).  You must state your preference for each task claimed. 

1. Keeping With Tradition = 3 or 7 points 

Create and hide 1 Traditional cache for 3 points or create and hide 2 Traditional caches for 7 points. 

2. “Building A Mystery” = 7 or 15 points 

Create and hide 1 Mystery cache for 7 points or create and hide 2 Mystery caches for 15 points. Challenge caches also meet the requirements for this Task. 

3. One Thing Leads To Another” = 6 points 

Create and hide a Multi-cache that has a minimum of 2 steps (posted coordinates and the final location) 

4. Stranger Things = 15 points 

Create an Adventure Lab (minimum 3 locations), a Virtual, or an EarthCache. 

5. Baker’s Dozen = (# of Finds x 1) to a Maximum of 13 points 

Claim 1 point per cache you find in a single day to a maximum of 13 points. Events do not qualify for this task. 

6. SCAR Caches = 7 points 

Find 3 caches that were hidden for SCAR events.  These caches can be from any year, as long as the cache name indicates that they were hidden as part of a SCAR event.

You can take the entire Games to find these 3 caches, but you must claim the Task within 7 days of finding the last required cache AND prior to the conclusion of the Games. 

7. “The Lucky One” = 7 Points 

Find 3 caches from the same Cache Owner.

You can take the entire Games to find these 3 caches, but you must claim the Task within 7 days of finding the last required cache AND prior to the conclusion of the Games.  The CO's caching name must also be included in the claim note.

8. Eight Is Enough = (1+D+T) points 

Find a physical cache with a minimum of 8 attributes on the cache page. 

9. “Spice Up Your Life” = 10 Points 

Find a minimum of 4 different Cache Types (not size) in a single day. Events may be used for this task. 

10. That Was Puzzling = (1+D+T) points 

Find 1 Mystery cache. Challenge caches DO NOT qualify for this task. 

11. “25 or 6 to 4” = (2+D+T) points 

Find any physical cache (see *exceptions) where the numbers 25 or 624 appear in the given order anywhere in the coordinates (as published) to claim this Task. The numbers do not need to appear consecutively, but they do need to appear in sequence. 

Example: N 51° 58.683', W 106° 40.247’ would qualify as the numbers 624 appear in order, even though they are not consecutive. 

*Exceptions: Multicache, Mystery, and Wherigo caches are not hidden at their posted coordinates, and as such do not qualify. 

12. “Mr. Lonely” = (4+D+T) points (Possible bonus of 5 additional points) 

Find and log any physical cache that has not been found in the preceding 90 days.  Bonus: 5 additional points if the cache has not been found in the preceding 180 (or more) days. 

13. “Hello” = 3 points 

Attend any Event from December 14, 2025 to February 21, 2026 inclusive.

14. “Winter Wonderland” = 8 points 

Find 3 caches in a single day that have the "Available During Winter" attribute.

15. “Spiders and Snakes” = (D+T) points 

Find a physical cache that displays the "Ticks" or “Dangerous animals” attribute. 

16. Always Open = (D+T) points 

Find a physical cache that displays the “Available 24/7” attribute. 

17. Ba-bing You're In, Ba-bing You're Out = (D+T) points 

Find a physical cache that displays the “Park and grab" attribute. 

18. Nom, nom, nom = (D+T) points 

Find a physical cache that displays the "Food nearby" attribute. 

19. Bees in our Bonnets = (1+D+T) points 

Find a physical cache that DOES NOT start with the letter ‘B’ 

20. “Paint it Black” = (D+T) points 

Find a physical cache that contains the word “Black” 

21. Winter Travel Required = (D+T) points (plus possible bonus 2 points) 

Find a physical cache that displays the “May require snowshoes” or “May require cross country skis” attribute. Include a photo taken of your snowshoes or skis at GZ in both your log on the cache page AND in your task note for a Bonus 2 points! 

22. Happy Anniversary (1+D+T) points 

Find a cache on its "Hidden” anniversary - (NOT the published date). Events do not qualify for this task. Example: At the top of the cache page it shows “Hidden : Jan/18/2016”. Finding this cache on January 18, will qualify for this Task. 

23. Out of Province = (D+T) points

Log any cache outside Saskatchewan. This task is exempt from Rule 6, however, it must be published prior to December 14, 2025, the start of the Games. 

24. “California Dreaming” = see below for point options 

Find a physical cache - Virtual and EarthCaches DO NOT qualify - and receive points based on specific air temperature ranges in degrees Celsius, excluding windchill. 

You must include proof of the temperature when you find the cache.  Please include either a screenshot, or photo of the temperature when you are signing the log. 

EDIT Jan. 23 - please include this photo in your claim note.

-1° to -9° = 3 point 

-10° to -19° = 5 points 

-20° to -29° = 10 points 

-30° to -39° = 15 points 

-40° or colder = 25 points
