The depot building, known as the Katy Depot for the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad (often called the “Katy”), is located at 101 E. Main St., Denison, Texas.
Denison itself was founded in 1872 in conjunction with the Katy Railroad.
One historical account says the depot was built in 1911 (or the “current building” dates around then) and has been revitalized in recent years.
According to a local story, “Over the years, hands, feet, toes… etc would get caught in between the rail cars and might need to be amputated. So, a graveyard was set up somewhere behind the Katy Depot, and they would hold funerals for everybody’s appendages that were lost.”
Reports of “weird feelings” when people walk by the depot, and dogs howling at night in that vicinity.
The depot is also the starting point for a local ghost tour that moves down Main Street, covering haunted spots including the depot area.
