Geocache Description:

Laʻie Point State Wayside, perched on Oahu's northeastern shore, captivates visitors with its dramatic coastal beauty and cultural significance. This scenic wayside offers a mesmerizing panorama of rugged cliffs, volcanic rock formations, and the vast Pacific Ocean, creating a tranquil retreat that celebrates both nature's artistry and Hawaiian heritage.

Laʻie Point is renowned for its natural landmarks, including the iconic "Laʻie Point Needle." This unique volcanic rock formation rises dramatically from the ocean, creating a striking silhouette against the backdrop of the coastal cliffs. The wayside's scenery is a testament to the raw geological forces that have shaped Oahu's shoreline.

Beyond its natural allure, Laʻie Point holds cultural significance in Hawaiian folklore. Legend has it that this point is the location where the goddess Hiʻiaka, sister of the volcano goddess Pele, threw the remains of the monster Kūiniolo into the sea. This cultural connection adds a layer of depth to the wayside, inviting visitors to appreciate the spiritual richness of the land.
