Located high above Teton Village on the ski slopes directly under
the path of the tram. It is a couple of hundred yards below the
first tram tower near the top of the mountain. It is easy to find,
but requires a lot of hiking. Hiking and Mtn. Biking on the
roads/trails are open to the public. This cache will probably
only be 'findable' in the warmer months of the year, when it's
not covered in snow.
This cache is located at about 7900 feet above sea level high above
Teton Village. It provides a great view of the Jackson Hole area.
The cache itself is a ziploc sandwich bag. It's initial contents
contain a pen and log book (compliments the Best Western's - The
Inn at Jackson Hole from the valley floor.), some chewing gum, a
small airplane, and a rock (as a weight).
Once you have a found the area, the cache should be easy to locate.
It is just below he ski area's maintenance road directly underneath
the cables that pull the tram, a little bit south of one of the ski
lift loading areas. It is located near a wooden structure (see
picture).
If you decide to hike to it, you are in for quite a trek. There are
two ways to go.
1) Ride the tram to the top and hike down. You can then either hike
back up to the top and ride the tram down or just hike back down to
the bottom.
2) Follow the path of the tram, this is fairly steep you will go
from 6,300 feet to 7,900 in about 1.3 miles.
3) Follow the maintenance road. This is about 3 miles, but
obviously not so steep. (If you go this way, watch for a
restaurant/lodge just above a ski lift, you need to make sure that
you follow the road that forks off (to the left if you are going
uphill) and goes just beneath this lodge.
The road is NOT open to drivers. Hikers and Mountain Bikers
are allowed.
When I hid the cache, I took the 1.3 mile route up, but decided it
was too steep to take down, so I followed the road most of the way
down, using some of the ski slopes as occassional short-cuts. This
made for a 4.3 mile round trip.
You may want to look at the spoiler (encrypted), since it
will be a long way to come back if you have a hard time finding it!
