About SideTracked Caches
This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website
The railway line from Townsville to Charters Towers opened on 4 December 1882. A branch line from the Ravenswood Junction to Ravenswood opened on 1 December 1884 and it served the town during its prosperous gold-mining era. However, the station's function ceased in 1930, marking the first time a Queensland town lost its railway connection, a direct result of the town's significant population decline following the closure of its mines. This is the site of the former railway station.
