The cache is located off of the Fardowners Camp trail, part of the Hellbender walking trail. Follower the Hellbender trail to the Fardowners trail. Follow this trail until you come to a bench. Sat before you is a flat space which was the camp site of the Irish tunnel builders.
When the tunnel was built, two groups, the Fardowners and Corkonians work from either end digging the tunnel. On January 20, 1852, they broke through in the middle. But found that they were 4 feet off center. Each side blamed the other. That night the Corkonians raided the Fardowners camp, destroying it. Causing harm to many of the people. The Fardowners escaped to Stuebenville and raided the armory.A fight between the two groups took place in the city streets.
The cannon was rolled out on to Market Street by the Fardowners, held the Corkians and the rest of city at bay. After two weeks of fighting, the governor called the state militia in to quell the frighting.
The cache is located about 100 feet off of the trail in the camp site. A first to find packet is available. Plus lots of swag.
