Just Breathe — Saanich

Along the trail where tall pine stand,

The wind hums softly through this coastal land,

Salt from the bay drifts beneath the leaves—

The Island whispers, “just breathe.”

By the bays calm, green-glass tide,

Herons linger, wings spread wide,

Cedars sway in rhythms the heart believes—

The forest tells you, “just breathe.”

In the brush there rests a deer

You'll ne'er see; and yet it's here.

It's misty breath it's head enwreathes

The forest king says "just breathe"

Bear Hill rises through morning’s haze,

Sunlight spills in slow, gold rays,

Above the pines, an eagle weaves and weaves—

The sky reminds you, “just breathe.”

Through farmland roads and winding creeks,

The earth still speaks in ancient peaks,

WSÁNEĆ voices hum beneath the leaves—

The past is present—"just breathe".

At dusk, the shoreline turns to flame,

The gulls all cry their evening names,

Across Elk Lake soft violet sheaves—

The water murmurs, “just breathe.”

And when the stars come out and darkness seeps,

And silence folds the land to sleep,

The night holds you, and softly sighs—

Then smiles, and whispers, “just breathe.”
