Jewell Avenue was names after Jewell Lake. A lake located near Santa Fe Drive and Jewell Avenue. Jewell Lake was used as an agricultural resource. The area is now known as Overland Park, a farm for many years. The nearby West Metro Fire Station was much smaller when I would ride my bike in the early sixties and Jewell was only a narrow two lane road. I would turn around and head home back to Harvey Park/ Bear Valley after getting water from the fire fighters. My goal, never realized was to ride further west to Morrison.
