LHR-GT #02: Forest County Historical Museum

Located in the historic 1872 G.W. Robinson home in Tionesta, Pennsylvania, the Forest County Historical Museum celebrates the rich heritage of Forest County through three floors of immersive exhibits. Operated by the Forest County Historical Society, a nonprofit founded in 1977, the museum features an extensive collection of artifacts and documents displayed within a beautifully preserved Victorian setting, complete with original oak floors, woodwork, and ornate mantels that bring the county’s past to life. Visitors can also explore a recreated lumber camp exhibit that offers a hands-on glimpse into the rugged daily life of the region’s early logging industry. Click here to learn more

TO FIND THIS CACHE,  you'll need to follow the clues below to locate two informational signs and solve for a four-digit lock combination. Please be courteous of the area and refrain from searching for the information or Geocache container after dark.

Use the posted coordinates to locate the plaque titled 'When Timber Was King'. Here, you'll need to answer the following questions:

A = The number of times the word 'Forest' is shown

B = The number of letters in the first quoted term (not "Lumber Baron")

Next, with your back facing the road, look up the slight incline toward the shed with the large 'Lumber Heritage Region' signage. Here, you should see a sign titled 'Rose (Simic) Ulyan'. Use this information to answer the following questions:

C = The time Rose woke up to start the wood fire in the cookstove and prepare breakfast

D = The number of children Rose and Joseph birthed NOT in various lumber camps

Once you've solved for values ABCD, look for the Lumber Heritage Region signpost. You can find it just to the right of the 'Rose (Simic) Ulyan' sign. Alternatively, enter the four-digit lock combination you've received into the Certitude above to confirm your answer and receive the final coordinates. Input the four-digit combination into the lock to access the log. Do not remove the stamp found in the cache. Please replace everything exactly as you found it. Thanks!

TO OPEN THE LOCK, insert the four-digit combination and press the button on the front to release the shackle. Remove the lock at an angle, or by closing the shackle in the 'unlocked' position and sliding it diagonally. Once complete, replace the lock from right to left, ensuring the button is facing the front for the next cacher. Thanks.

This project was financed in part by a grant from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, the Heritage Areas Program, under the administration of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.
