LHR-GT #05: Kinzua Bridge

The MJ2KB Trail Club maintains a 7.8-mile section of the Knox & Kane Rail Trail in the Pennsylvania Wilds, linking Kinzua Bridge State Park with U.S. Route 219 and preserving a corridor shaped by transportation, industry, and engineering history. The trail traces the legacy of the Knox & Kane Railroad and the Kinzua Bridge Viaduct, first built of iron in 1882 as the world’s highest railroad viaduct and rebuilt in steel in 1900 to support heavier trains serving the region’s coal, timber, and oil industries. After freight service ended and the site became Kinzua Bridge State Park, the viaduct gained national recognition before an F1 tornado in 2003 collapsed much of the structure. Today, visitors can experience its history via the park’s skywalk, opened in 2011, which extends onto restored towers and offers sweeping views of the valley and the fallen remains below, connecting recreation with one of Pennsylvania’s most iconic industrial landmarks. TO OPEN THE LOCK, insert the four-digit combination and press the button on the front to release the shackle. Remove the lock at an angle, or by closing the shackle in the 'unlocked' position and sliding it diagonally. Once complete, replace the lock from right to left, ensuring the button is facing the front for the next cacher. Thanks.
