LHR-GT #15: Driftwood & Bucktail Monument

Located in Driftwood along Route 555, the Bucktail Monument honors the soldiers of Pennsylvania’s 42nd Infantry—known as the Bucktail Regiment—who answered President Lincoln’s call during the Civil War. Drawn from the state’s northern counties, the Bucktails were famed for their marksmanship and their distinctive bucktail hat emblems, symbolizing their ties to the region’s forests. The monument serves as a lasting tribute to their service and anchors a broader exploration of local history and nature, including nearby cultural sites such as the Little Museum in Sterling Run and the wildlife-focused experiences of Sinnemahoning State Park.
