LHR-GT #19: Smicksburg Heritage Center

Located in Smicksburg, Pennsylvania, the John G. Schmick Heritage Center preserves and interprets the history and cultural legacy of the Little Mahoning Creek Valley. Established through community efforts in the 1990s and housed in its current building since 2009, the center features recreated historical rooms, industry and trade exhibits, local archaeology, and a genealogy library that reflect daily life, work, and traditions of the region. Through artifacts, educational programs, and guided tours, the Heritage Center serves as a community focal point for understanding Smicksburg’s past and the broader heritage of rural western Pennsylvania. TO FIND THIS CACHE, make your way to the posted coordinates and keep an eye out for the large LHR signpost. You should easily spot the cache located on the back. Insert the combination 2009 into the lock to gain access to the log and codeword, and please place everything back exactly as you found it.

TO OPEN THE LOCK, insert the four-digit combination and press the button on the front to release the shackle. Remove the lock at an angle, or by closing the shackle in the 'unlocked' position and sliding it diagonally. Once complete, replace the lock from right to left, ensuring the button is facing the front for the next cacher. Thanks.

This project was financed in part by a grant from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, the Heritage Areas Program, under the administration of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.
