Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Storybook Castle! This cache was placed with permission of the amazing property owners. They have been beyond kind to me and the geocaching community, if you see them, please give them a wave or share some words of kindness. Multiple residents live on the property including a suite that people can rent. All people who LIVE on site know about this cache but temporary guests visiting the property or staying in the rental suite may not know about this cache. This is also a popular attraction amongst Fairhope residents as well as people passing through/visiting so use your best stealth if needed. The container is tethered in place so you won't be able to take it down. You may need a TOTT for log extraction. If you can not get the log out, feel free to send me a message.

A message from the owner: We want you to enjoy your visit so, PLEASE REMEMBER, these are private homes. Please respect our privacy and the privacy of others who live on site. Keep away from windows, decks, and porches. Do NOT go into the back yards. This location is recommended for children but they must be kept in check at all times and respect the property. Photography is permitted! These rules along with some other information will be posted near the entrance. You are welcome to drive your car down the gravel road but please respect the property!

Fairhope’s famous Storybook Castles sit together on one property near downtown. The first was built after World War II by artist and craftsman Craig Sheldon, who turned his home into a whimsical, hand-built stone castle using recycled and found materials. His daughter Pagan and her husband, artist and historian Dean Mosher, later expanded the property in the 1980s, adding the neighboring Mosher Castle complete with towers, bridges, and even a copper dragon named Hendrix. Still privately owned by the family, the castles have become beloved Fairhope landmarks, symbolizing the town’s creative spirit and tradition of artful, imaginative architecture. Additional information and history regarding these castles can be found online. There are many resources available!
