If you start from the middle gate and follow the Twilight Trail counterclockwise around RoxyAnn Peak, you will quickly see why this place has a reputation. In the rainy months this stretch can turn into a full-on mud factory. Within just a few steps you may feel like you have grown a couple of inches as the clay piles onto your boots. Veterans of this trail know the simple guideline... wait until the trail has had a few days to dry out before going after this cache, unless you are in the mood for an unintended height boost.
As you make your way along you will also meet one of RoxyAnn’s most loyal residents: poison oak. It is everywhere in Prescott Park, not just in leafy summer mode, but all year long. Even in winter, when the leaves are gone, it lurks in clumps of bare sticks that still carry plenty of oil. The silver lining is that once you spot a patch or two, it becomes very easy to recognize those leafless “stick bundles” for what they are. Treat every suspicious cluster with respect and you will walk away itch free.
The good news. This cache is not hidden in or near poison oak. You can reach the cache from the trail without needing to push through sketchy vegetation. That said, it may take a bit of searching and a patient cacher’s eye to spot the hide. Slow down, enjoy the Twilight Trail, and let your geosenses kick in as you close in on ground zero.
When you make the find, please replace the cache and its camo exactly as you found them so it stays tucked out of sight from non geocachers. That way the next explorer can slog the mud, dodge the poison oak, and enjoy the hunt just as much as you did.
