Highway 140 is not exactly a quiet forest path. You might be cruising along at 55, feeling like you are making good time, while other traffic blasts by at subsonic speeds. This cache gives you a reason to slow down, pull over, and enjoy the scenery for a moment instead of just rocketing past. There is a nice wide pulloff near ground zero with plenty of room to park safely off the roadway.
This cache is intended to be accessed while traveling eastbound. Do not stop on the westbound side and attempt to cross the highway. Traffic moves fast through this stretch and drivers are not expecting pedestrians. If you are approaching from the westbound side, please continue driving until you can safely turn around. Then return eastbound, pull well onto the shoulder at the pulloff, and only exit your cachemobile once you are fully off the travel lane.
Just south of ground zero sits Stone Ridge Golf Club, spread across the rolling hills. Depending on the time of day you may catch glimpses of golfers on the fairways or hear the faint thwack of tee shots echoing across the landscape. Between the open sky, the surrounding hills, and the sweep of Highway 140, it makes for a surprisingly scenic little pause point.
The cache is a short walk from where you park. Nothing extreme, but you will still need to switch into geocacher mode and ask yourself, “If I were hiding something here, where would I put it” Take care around any vegetation and avoid getting too close to the pavement while you search.
Once you make the find, sign the log, enjoy the view for a moment, and return the container exactly as you found it so this quick highway stop can stay safe, simple, and satisfying for future travelers along 140.
