Some caches take you deep into the woods, this one takes you up above them, even if they're a bit singed. Near Talent, an overpass gives you a surprisingly wide view of the valley, with orchards and vineyards laid out below and, on a clear day, Mt Ashland looming in the distance. It is the kind of spot you might have driven over a hundred times without realizing how good the view is if you actually stop and look.
As always with roadside hides, your first job is to park smart. Find a safe spot where you can pull completely off the traveled lane, put on your hazard lights if needed, and make sure your geomobile is not blocking traffic or creating a blind corner. Northbound there is parking a little bit ahead, hear a sign, with a short walk back. There's also a parking waypoing listed at the Bear Creek Trail on the other side of the bridge.
Once you are parked and clear of traffic, take a moment to enjoy the scenery. In spring and early summer the orchards and vineyards below start to green up, in late season the colors shift and the patchwork of fields stands out against the hills. Mt Ashland anchors the southern horizon, a reminder of how much vertical relief hides just behind the valley floor you are looking over.
