Geocache Description:

I went to Yelapa today with B & E, and the stars truly aligned.

Within minutes of arriving, we found an ATV guide named Moy, who turned out to be an absolute gem. He drove us high up into the mountains while we laid out a whole new series of caches for all you adventurous, travel-loving geocachers.

Getting to Yelapa:

There are no roads leading to Yelapa —you’ll need to take a boat. Water taxis leave from the marina, from Playa Los Muertos downtown, or from Boca de Tomatlán. Because we wanted a very early start, we took an Uber to Boca and caught the 8:00 am water taxi. We had the entire series finished by 1:00 pm.

About the hides:

  • All caches are rated Terrain 5 due to the remote, mountain environment you can only access by boat + ATV or hiking.
  • Difficulty varies depending on how sneaky the hides are.
  • Each container is a camoed pill bottle wrapped in black hockey tape.
  • Every cache is wired to a branch so it won’t blow away or “swim away” during storms.

None of the hides are on private property—Moy absolutely refused to place anything on farmers’ fences.

No poles or special tools required.

Please respect the area:

  • Replace each cache exactly as found.
  • Return the log sheet to the plastic bag before rehiding.
  • The locals are very observant—let’s keep geocaching welcome here.
  • And of course: please do not litter.

Enjoy the adventure, enjoy Yelapa’s beauty, and enjoy the fresh mountain air as you explore this new series. Happy caching!
