Als Mitglied der Hanse war Goslar über Jahrhunderte Teil eines weit verzweigten Handelsnetzes, das den Norden Europas prägte. Zwar lag Goslar nicht an der Küste, doch die reichen Erzvorkommen des Rammelsberg machten die Stadt zu einem begehrten Handelspartner. Silber, Kupfer und andere Metalle gelangten von hier aus bis nach Flandern und England.
Mit den Kaufleuten kamen aber nicht nur Waren, sondern auch neue Genüsse in die Stadt: Über die Handelswege der Hanse erreichten Wein aus südlicheren Regionen und später auch exotische Luxusgüter wie Kakao, aus dem irgendwann Schokolade wurde, den Norden. So verband die Hanse Goslar nicht nur wirtschaftlich mit der Welt, sondern brachte auch ein Stück kulinarische Vielfalt in die Stadt – ein Hauch von Ferne zwischen Bergwerk, Marktplatz und Ratsstube.

Über die GeoTour
Goslar vereint auf besondere Weise Geschichte, Landschaft und Technik. Die historische Altstadt, das Erzbergwerk Rammelsberg und das Oberharzer Wasserregal bilden gemeinsam ein einzigartiges Ensemble, das als UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe ausgezeichnet wurde und bis heute die Entwicklung der Region sichtbar macht.
Diese Geotour ist aus der Geocaching-Community heraus entstanden. Sie wurde von engagierten Cacherinnen und Cachern entworfen, entwickelt und getragen – mit dem Ziel, die Besonderheiten Goslars auf abwechslungsreiche Weise erlebbar zu machen und bekannte wie weniger bekannte Orte miteinander zu verbinden. Und unser Maskottchen Adelhard wird dich dabei begleiten.
Goslar ist immer eine Reise Wert, weil hier Treffen sich mehrere.

Welcome to Goslar at the beautiful edge of the Harz. We’re glad you are visiting our GeoTour.
(this Cache) Hanse, wine, and chocolate
As a member of the Hanse, the town of Goslar was part of a far-reaching trade network that shaped Northern Europe for centuries. Although Goslar was not a coastal city, the rich ore deposits of the Rammelsberg made it a valued trading partner. Silver, copper, and other metals were exported from here as far as Flanders and England.
But the merchants brought more than raw materials. Along the Hanseatic trade routes, wine from southern regions and later exotic luxury goods such as cocoa — the basis of chocolate — also found their way north. In this way, the Hanse connected Goslar not only economically to the wider world, but also culturally and culinarily, adding a touch of distant lands to life between mine, market square, and council hall.

About the GeoTour
Goslar uniquely combines history, landscape, and technology. The historic old town, the Rammelsberg ore mine, and the Upper Harz Water Management System together form a unique ensemble, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and still reveal the development of the region today.
This GeoTour originated from the geocaching community. It was designed, developed, and supported by dedicated cachers, with the goal of showcasing Goslar’s special features in an engaging way and connecting both well-known and lesser-known locations. And our mascot Adelhard will accompany you along the way.
