Elmira Nature Reserve Beginning is a new path just off the Elmira Lions Rings Trail. Woolwich's own nursery started in 2013. The nursery has grown to supply more than 30 diferent species with seedlings planted in seed trays in their own hoop house and by students in local primary schools. Seniors in local retirement homes also care for seedlings over the winter.
During the spring 2004 and 2006 approximately 700 trees and shrubs were planted in this open meadow to extend the existing wooded area. All the trees and shrubs planted are native, including white pine, tamarack, red-osier dogwood and bur oak. The project was made possible thanks to the efforts of many local volunteers and the Township of Woolwich Environmental Committee (TWEEC).
