Welcome to Wolfinger Bird Sanctuary! The sanctuary was established in 1972 when Marguerite Wolfinger conveyed the land to the City of Rice Lake, with an agreement that it wouldn’t be touched for 40 years. In that time, this area became extremely overgrown, particularly with invasive species like buckthorn and honeysuckle. In recent years, the city and volunteers have cleaned up the area, making it more people-friendly while still looking out for our feathered friends by planting new trees.
