Geocache Description:

Cold Cache Crew 2026 presents...

Frozen Waterfalls - Spray Falls

Located in Alger County, Spray Falls is a remote, 70-foot cascade waterfall in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and plunges directly into Lake Superior. It is best viewed by the lake via a boat cruise or kayak, but you can see a little bit from the North Country trail. The 1856 shipwreck of the "Superior" lies in about 20 feet of water at the base of the falls, a tragic piece of local history. Another unique feature is with strong winds from the lake, the spray can be pushed upwards, creating the illusion of an "upside-down waterfall". In the winter, the falls transform into a stunning ice formation creating ice curtains that ice climbers enjoy climbing.

The Cache

Welcome to Pickerel Lake Park where you can enjoy hiking, fishing, and caching.  Sadly no dogs allowed. Open year round from 7am - 7pm.

About CCC 2026

The Cold Cache Crew theme this year is Frozen Waterfalls, highlighting beautiful falls from across Michigan and the nation. These caches will be available from January 1 to March 31. Click here to be redirected to a list of all caches in this year's series.
The caches this year are published as a tribute to AddHam, who passed away on June 23rd, 2025. He was an original member of Cold Cache Crew when it began in 2012, and was an avid Geocacher who made very creative caches for the love of the game.
