Cold Cache Crew 2026 presents...
Frozen Waterfalls - Laughing Whitefish Falls

Located in Alger County, near Munising and Marquette, Laughing Whitefish Falls is one of the tallest falls in the upper peninsula at 100 feet, and is technically classified as a slide waterfall. Its name comes from the fact its river mouth resembled a "laughing fish" to the Ojibwe. The road leading to the trailhead is seasonal and unplowed with no turn-around and is only accessible via snowshoe or ungroomed cross-country ski trails so expect to park further out and hike, or snowmobile in. The stairs are not maintained in the winter and can be packed in snow, so if you adventure to the falls, use caution and bring some ice spikes or hiking poles along.
The Cache
Welcome to the Annis Fish Hatchery. Please use caution as the parking may not be plowed and you will encounter a creek crossing; boots at your own risk, waders are highly recommended!
