The Enola Low Grade Trail is open DAWN to DUSK only. Except for the yearly Moonlight Bike Ride.
This small container is after the 1.5 mile marker on the trail. The name refers to the small gold-colored lichen on the nearby rock. There is an abundance of yellow lichen here. It is probably Candleflame, but it may be Goldspeck. But if I called this cache Candle Flame, you might be expecting candles? There are also some very small gold-colored specks in the rock (pyrite?) as well as some awesome quartz in a nearby rock.
I'd be aware of snakes in warm weather. There is no need to climb far from the trail. Look low.
Enjoy sweeping views of the Susquehanna River along the almost 6 mile Manor Township section of the Enola Low Grade Trail. It begins at the base of Turkey Hill and ends past the restored Safe Harbor Trestle Bridge. The ELGT then continues for at least another 20 miles. This part of the trail is 12 feet wide compressed stone with elevated observation decks, natural waterfalls, a restored caboose, picnic tables, benches, and restrooms along the way. This section follows an abandoned right of way of the Enola Low Grade Railroad, one of several branch lines of the Pennsylvania Railroad.
The first LOST on the ELGT geocaches along this trail were created in 2013 by members of L.O.S.T. (Lancaster Organization for Seeking Tupperware). The caches are distinct hides hidden and maintained by individuals. They are not interchangeable hides and containers.
