The Ruins of St. Paul's, known as "大三巴牌坊" in Chinese, are the remnants of the Church of Mater Dei built in 1602-1640. This blend of Chinese and Portuguese culture suffered from several fires, including one in 1595 and one in 1601. After reconstructions, the church was unfortunately destroyed again in the 1835 blaze resulting from a typhoon. What remained was the façade, inspiring countless stories and artworks afterward. It is now one of the most iconic landmarks in Macao. Being formally recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, it is now visited by tens of thousands of visitors from around the world.
Several hundred meters away from the façade, this quiet corner sits in the busy place. I had dreamed of visiting the heritage since childhood, and I finally had the chance in 2024. This time, with no childhood story but the same type of container hidden in the same style, the cache was designed to be a spiritual successor (Macao edition) to GCAR4B8 "Childhood," my first geocache.
Don't forget stealth while looking for the container! And hope this cache brings you a unique experience that muggles might never have when visiting the historical landmark.
