Goheonsan (고헌산) stands just over 1,030 meters on the border of Ulsan and North Gyeongsang Province. It sits on the northern edge of the Yeongnam Alps, a compact range of 1,000 meter class peaks known for wide ridges, silver grass, and big skies. The summit area of Goheonsan is broad and open, with traces of an old fortress site, patches of reeds, and impressive views toward neighboring peaks like Cheonhwangsan and Gajisan.
Many hikers come here as part of the Yeongnam Alps peak challenge, often following the steep but direct routes up from trailheads such as Oehaengjae or Gohonsa. The climb is not long, but it gets rocky and quite steep near the top, rewarding you with a classic ridge line panorama once you break out of the trees.
On the day this cache was placed, I enjoyed a splendid late afternoon hike, tagging two of the main bumps on the ridge. I could not find a suitable hiding place at the more prominent peak, so settled on this simple hide. The cache title should tell you all you need.
고헌산은 울산광역시 울주군과 경상북도 경주시 경계에 자리한 해발 약 1,032미터의 산으로, 1,000미터급 봉우리들이 모여 있는 영남알프스 산군을 이루는 대표 봉우리 중 하나입니다. 완만하게 이어지는 능선과 사방으로 트인 조망 덕분에, 유럽 알프스를 떠올리게 한다는 의미에서 영남알프스라는 이름이 붙었습니다.
정상 부근 능선은 비교적 넓게 펼쳐져 있고, 옛 산성터의 흔적과 더불어 태화강 상류 쪽 계곡과 주변 마을들이 한눈에 내려다보입니다. 영남알프스 인증을 준비하는 산객들이 자주 찾는 곳으로, 외항재 같은 고개를 들머리로 삼아 짧지만 제법 가파른 코스를 통해 반나절 산행을 즐기기 좋습니다.
이 캐시는 늦은 오후에 고헌산 능선의 봉우리 두 곳을 잇달아 찍고 내려오던 길에 숨겨 두었습니다. 가장 눈에 띄는 정상 표지석 근처에서는 마음에 드는 장소를 찾지 못해, 대신 조금 더 한적하지만 조망이 좋은 능선 구간을 택했습니다. 캐시 제목인 “Emergency! on Goheonsan”은 도착했을 때 주변에서 보게 될 어떤 시설에 대한 작은 힌트이기도 합니다.
산행 중 만나는 각종 안전 시설과 구조물은 건드리지 말고, 캐시만 조심히 찾은 뒤 처음과 똑같이 다시 숨겨 주세요. 이어지는 영남알프스 능선 풍경을 천천히 즐기시길 바랍니다.
