Cold Cache Crew 2026 presents...
Frozen Waterfalls - Munising Falls

Located in the westernmost portion of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Alger County, Munising Falls is a cascade-type waterfall that freezes into dramatic ice formations, creating a unique winter wonderland. The stunning ice sculpture is a 50-foot frozen column or "ice volcano" over a sandstone cliff. It is easily accessible via a short, paved, but potentially icy and snowy trail from a plowed lot. Visitors should expect slippery conditions, needing ice cleats or snowshoes. They can enjoy views from elevated platforms, but must stay on marked trails, as the falls themselves are off-limits to climbers due to rockfall.
