Yes, squirrels sit frequently to eat, rest, survey their surroundings for danger, or hide from predators. They often sit upright on their hind legs, especially while eating or being alert, and can remain remarkably still for over 8 minutes. When resting, they may sit or lie down in trees, on branches, or in their nests.
This cache is located along an exceptionally beautiful new trail within Los Flores Ranch Park. There are brief and steep switchbacks along parts of the trail but the scenery and serenity you'll experience far outweigh any challenging terrain you may encounter!
See below for trailhead waypoints. I enjoy hiking a 4 mile "loop" up the East La Cuesta trail to "five points" then along the Basin trail to the highest waypoint (01) and it's generally downhill from there. Remember to wear appropriate hiking attire, sunscreen, and bring plenty of water along with your writing tools!

This cache and all others within the park are approved by the City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department. All rules apply accessing the ranch. Open Friday-Sunday 8am-7pm Spring/Summer.
