Cold Cache Crew 2026 presents...
Frozen Waterfalls - Miners Falls

Located in the western portion of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Alger County, Miners Falls drops about 40 feet over a sandstone outcrop with a 10 foot crest. The waterfall becomes a towering, icy column in winter. The hike to the falls is peaceful, surrounded by thick forests blanketed in snow. According to the Miners Falls Trail Guide, the waterfall was named by employees of Alexander Henry during one of his exploratory trips on Lake Superior. At that time, indicators such as discolored water oozing from bedrock was found in the Miners Basin, although no minerals were ever extracted from this area.
The Cache
The cache is NOT at the posted coords, but it is a good place to start.
From the posted coords, walk south until you cross over a double tube culvert. Just past the culvert, turn right and head west off the trail. Climb down the slope and into the woods, keeping the creek to your right. Watch your step, there are a lot of uneven terrain hiding under the snow. You are looking for a large fallen tree that spans across the creek. Don't worry, you don't have to cross it. Follow the large fallen tree trunk back to the root ball where you will find the cache.
