Frozen Waterfalls - Nawadaha Falls
Located in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, Nawadaha Falls freezes during the winter months, creating a beautiful snowy and icy landscape. The falls are part of the Presque Isle River Waterfalls complex, where winter hiking offers stunning views of partially or fully frozen cascades.
The Cache
Some of Ham's favorite hides were abandoned structures in Grand Rapids and surrounding areas.
This rather large set of 4 silos were part of the gypsum mining operations here at this exact location. The gypsum mined here was used to make drywall in a factory that was located where the Kent county parks admin and maintenance buildings currently sit just down the hill from these silos. It produced around 40 sheets of drywall per hour of various sizes. Mining companies owning it included Grand Rapids Gypsum, Domtar, Georgia Pacific, Bestwall, US Gypsum, Grand Rapids Plaster, and possibly others long since forgotten. Bestwall company owned and operated another mine close to this location on Butterworth St at N42 56.697 W085 43.373 where its remains can still be seen. This is now part of Millennium Park.
The original entrance to this particular mine was located very close to these silos at N 42 57.155 W 085 42.523 with the workings going off toward the west running under the sand pits and The Mines golf course. The Mine also contained a rare solutional void or cave positioned entirely within a gypsum seam. It was discovered by an employee and named Pellerito Cave after him for his discovery. The mine has since completely flooded and all entrances have been filled in along with all the emergency exits near by. If you're ever interested, Caveboy_Ken has the maps to this particular mine as well as the mine that was located in Grand Rapids near the Ford airport (which is also closed and entrances filled in) should you wish to see them.
What you seek is NOT located behind any fenced in area. You will need to walk around the permiter searching against the structure / fence until you locate it.
