Frozen Waterfalls - Slate River Falls
Located in Baraga County, Slate River Falls is a scenic waterfall about 11 miles east of L’Anse. You can park along Skanee Road near the Slate River bridge and follow a rough trail to reach the cascade. The drop is about 25 feet into a deep pool, and is the most impressive of several drops on the river. It is the namesake of the layered slate that it passes over. The forested setting means there’s no developed trail or signage. In winter, the falls and surrounding gorge often freeze into ice formations, but the approach can be slippery and snowy, so sturdy footwear and caution are important.
The Cache
This cache is dedicated to AddHam who placed some masterfully designed Wherigo cache adventures. GC5NV5H For the Rest of You was one of the earliest Wherigo caches that I found and a great way to start. Before there were Reverse Wherigos, this was about as easy as they came.
Check out the cartridge For the Rest of You. There are proximity issues with the original cache placement, so when you get to the end of the cartridge, you will need to add 0.100 to the North coords.

The caches this year are published as a tribute to
AddHam, who passed away on June 23rd, 2025. He was an original member of Cold Cache Crew when it began in 2012, and was an avid Geocacher who made very creative caches for the love of the game.
