Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas


“The masterpiece existed. The engineer had succeeded. I could no longer doubt it. The Nautilus, directed by the mysterious Captain Nemo, existed before my eyes in all its strength and beauty. It rested motionless upon the waters. Its long cigar-shaped hull ended in a sharp cone; I easily recognized its form, already sketched in my mind. Its exterior was smooth, without projections that could impede its movement through the sea. Everything in its construction revealed calculation, power, and elegance. I stood in admiration before this extraordinary vessel, which seemed less the work of man than the creation of some mysterious genius.”
