포획암(捕獲岩, Xenolith)

이미 존재하던 암석 조각이 다른 마그마나 암석 속에 “잡혀 들어간 것”

• 마그마가 상승하면서 주변 암석을 뜯어내 포획
• 그 조각이 녹지 않고 남아 있음
• 주로 화성암 속에서 발견됨

특징

• 주변 암석과 조성·색·입자 크기가 다름
• 경계가 비교적 뚜렷함
• 지각·맨틀 연구에 매우 중요

• 현무암 속 감람암 포획암
• 화강암 속 변성암 조각

포유암(包有岩, Enclave)

같은 마그마계 또는 유사한 환경에서 형성된 암석 덩어리가 포함된 것

• 마그마 내부에서 조성 차이·혼합 불완전으로 생김
• 포획암보다 기원 차이가 작음

특징

• 주변 암석과 어느 정도 조성이 비슷
• 경계가 흐릿한 경우도 있음
• 마그마 혼합·분화 과정의 증거

Xenolith

A xenolith is a fragment of pre-existing rock that was captured by magma and enclosed within an igneous rock.

• Formed when rising magma tears off surrounding rocks
• The fragment survives without completely melting
• Commonly found in igneous rocks

Characteristics

• Composition, color, or grain size is clearly different from the host rock
• Boundaries are usually sharp and distinct
• Very important for studying the crust and mantle

Examples

• Peridotite xenoliths in basalt
• Metamorphic rock fragments in granite

Enclave

An enclave is a rock inclusion that formed from the same or closely related magmatic system as the host rock.

• Formed due to incomplete mixing or chemical differences within magma
• The difference in origin is smaller than that of xenoliths

Characteristics

• Composition is somewhat similar to the host rock
• Boundaries may be diffuse or blurred
• Evidence of magma mixing and differentiation

Examples

• Mafic enclaves in granite
• Dark-colored enclaves in porphyritic igneous rocks
