Geocache Description:

Area is open only during daylight hours. Park in the ample parking lot and not along the road.

This area was a hotbed of furnace activity in the mid to late 1800s with several furnaces in the area. The Donegal Furnace was built in 1847. It had its maximum output in 1879 when it produced over 5000 tons of pig iron over the course of a year. But its last blast was in 1887 as it was never upgraded. You can walk down the short trail to see it - see trailhead waypoint. That trail also leads to the cache that is not at the furnace but nearby.

The cache is a film canister in a vertical manmade piece of wood. Bring your own pen although I fit a pencil inside.
