About SideTracked Caches

This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website

About Orelda Siding

The Corowa to Culcairn Railway line opened on 3 October 1892 and its main purpose was for the transport of wheat. Passenger services ceased in 1975, a time when the widespread closure of country branch-line passenger services occurred. The section from Brocklesby to Culcairn was decommissioned in December 1991.

A siding opened between Brocklesby and Burrumbuttock on 30th September 1893. Originally called Long Gully, it was renamed to Orelda in January 1902. It consisted of an unattended six metre paltform on the up side of the line. There was also a small yard with a level crossing gate present. The line remains but has not been used since 1991.

Access to the siding is along a dirt road from the Burrumbuttock-Brocklesby Road. Near the intersection is an information sign on the former Burrumbuttock West Primary School. There is a residence near here so please drive slowly to minimise dust. Please park well off the road at GZ. There is no need to leave the road or enter private property - the cache should be a quick find on the side of the road. Careful  with jids and dogs here (though traffic is likely to be light). Snakes may be an issue in the warmer months.

Enjoy
