Surprisingly, the idea for a snow globe came from a man who was trying to improve the brightness of the light bulb for a doctor who needed better light to perform surgery. After some experimentation with baby food and water, he made the first snow globe. It did nothing to help the surgeon but it created a fun keepsake.
