Geocache Description:

Polski     English

Symbolika herbu:

  • Mury - miejskość
  • Otwarta brama - gościnność
  • Korona - królewskość
  • Orzeł - stołeczność (co prawda przeszła)

Zatem w herbie znajdujemy odzwierciedlenie tradycyjnej nazwy miasta: Stołeczne Królewskie Miasto Kraków.

Najstarsza zachowana postać herbu Krakowa z klosza dzwonu Królewskiego (Tenebrata) z kościoła Mariackiego

Zagadka

Na obrazku jest 10 kopii herbu. Niektóre zostały zmienione w stosunku do oryginału (pliku z Wiki, dostępny w galerii). Znajdź te różnice i zmienionym herbom przypisz 1, a niezmienionym 0.
Otrzymasz dwie liczby: X = ABCDEFGHIJ oraz Y = BCAFGADFHJ, które po prostym przekształceniu podstawisz do wzoru.

Finał znajduje się na współrzędnych:

N 50° 04.X' E 19° 56.Y'

Puzzle

The image contains 10 copies of a coat of arms. Some of them have been modified compared to the original (the file from Wiki, see the gallery). Find these differences and assign 1 to the modified coats of arms and 0 to the unmodified ones. You will obtain two numbers:
X = ABCDEFGHIJ and Y = BCAFGADFHJ
which after a simple transformation should be substituted into the coordinate formula.

The final is located at the coordinates:

N 50° 04.X' E 19° 56.Y'

The coat of arms of Kraków has evolved over the centuries. The oldest known reference to it dates back to the 14th century, while the oldest surviving artifact bearing the Kraków coat of arms is a bell from St. Mary’s Basilica, cast around 1388 and known as the Royal Bell or Tenebrat.

The version used today was officially adopted in 2002, although its main elements and overall form remain very close to the design approved by the City Council in 1937.

Symbolism of the coat of arms:

  • The city walls — symbolize Kraków’s urban character
  • The open gate — symbolizes hospitality
  • The crown — symbolizes royal status
  • The eagle — symbolizes its former role as the capital city

Thus, the coat of arms reflects the city’s traditional title:
The Royal Capital City of Kraków.

The original form of the Kraków coat of arms — the oldest known seal of the city, at the same time a vogt’s (reeve’s) seal, created between 1281 and 1283.
