Geocache Description:

22nd February 2026, 09:45 - 12:15

I have been volunteering with SWWG and working on their footpath improvement projects for a good few years now.

The geocaching community made a significant input into the previous Footpath 23 Phase 1, 2 & 3 and St. Mary’s Wood projects at my CITOs held in 20222023, summer 2024, winter 2024 and in 2025.

The fantastic news is that as SWWG are so impressed with our previous engineering achievements, they have asked if the Geocaching community can lead one of their most important and critical projects!

A new 7.2 metre footbridge has been fabricated and is ready to be installed during this CITO. The new bridge will look like the one in the photo below that is around a mile downstream of the new one...

The work will be supervised/assisted by experienced SWWG volunteers, with additional support being provided by Cheshire East.

There are also other ongoing works in both St. Mary’s Dell and Dingle Wood that we can help them with during this event. The actual tasks on the day will depend on the weather and progress in their work sessions in the weeks leading up to our CITO, but it could include improving paths, removing undergrowth and generally making access by visitors and the general public a whole lot easier.

This session is exclusively for geocachers attending this CITO only.

If you fancy attending this CITO to help progress the SWWG projects, all we would ask of you is:

1. Please only confirm your attendance if you can definitely make it. "Hoping to be there" doesn't really work for this.

2. Any children must be accompanied by their responsible adult at all times.

3. Bring sturdy boots/wellies, PPE/gloves, suitable clothing for the weather forecast and a drink.

4. If we need attendees to bring any special tools, we will let you know in an announcement nearer the time. It would be useful to bring a spade, rake and/or garden loppers if you have them.

There will be a short H&S briefing that starts at 09:45 sharp that will be conducted at the bottom end of the Lower Waitrose Car Park. You must attend at 09:45 and sign up to this if you want to participate. See the location coordinates in the additional waypoints.

This large car park has lots of space, however Cheshire East now charges for parking on a Sunday.

Make sure you pay for your parking Please don't get caught out with a penalty notice.

There is no parking on Old Mill Road (A533) or Brookhouse Road leading to Waitrose.

You don't need to be built like Geoff Capes to be involved in this CITO. All ages, fitness levels and abilities are welcome.

Please feel free to get in touch with me if something in this listing doesn't make sense or if you have any suggestions or good ideas to make the event a success.
