What is CITO?
CITO stands for Cache In, Trash Out. It’s a long-standing tradition in the geocaching world that encourages us to leave the places we explore better than we found them.
While searching for hidden containers, geocachers often come across litter that others have left behind. CITO turns that moment into an opportunity—by picking up a few pieces of trash on the way in or out, we help protect the land we enjoy.
Why is CITO important?
Forests like this one are home to wildlife, plants, and people seeking a bit of peace. Trash doesn’t just look bad—it can harm animals, contaminate soil and water, and slowly turn beautiful places into forgotten ones.
One person picking up a single bottle doesn’t seem like much. But when many people do a little, the impact adds up fast. CITO is about shared responsibility, not perfection.
So if you can, grab a glove or bag and take a few pieces with you when you leave. Even a handful makes a difference. *THIS IS NOT REQUIRED IN ORDER TO LOG THE CACHE*
Thanks for helping this forest breathe a little easier 🌲
