This two-stage multi geocache is part of the SideTracked series that is popular in the UK and throughout the world. It is designed to be a relatively quick cache find around train stations for travellers but, of course, anyone else can find it too! There's a small pencil included but it's always good to bring your own writing implement to sign the log.

Newington Armory Railway

The Armory Railway system at Newington refers to the 610 mm (2 foot) narrow‑gauge tramway that once served the Royal Australian Navy Armament Depot (RANAD) Newington, now known as the Newington Armory at Sydney Olympic Park. It is one of Australia’s most intact surviving military-industrial rail systems.
The Armory Railway was a 6.1 km narrow‑gauge internal tramway, built between 1897–98, used to move explosives safely between wharves, magazines, laboratories, and storage bunkers. It operated with human, horse, and later battery‑electric locomotives, and is now preserved as part of the Newington Armory heritage precinct.

Preserving this railway is important because
-
It is one of the largest surviving military narrow‑gauge rail systems in Australia.
-
Demonstrates early explosives‑handling engineering, including safe transport routes and blast‑resistant architecture.
-
Forms part of a broader cultural landscape spanning 1890s–1940s military development.
(Please Note - The passenger train featured in a photo above is currently not operating and is not expected to be running anytime soon.)
