On May 9th, 2025, the city of Alubuquerque broke ground for the construction of the first segment of the Albuquerque Rail Trail, a new world class multiuse path that will someday be a beautiful, 7 mile loop of wide, well lit paved trail that will connect historic neighborhoods around downtown Albuquerque.
Though this is only a short section, it serves as a showpiece for the quality of the upcoming trail, complete with a smooth, durable concrete surface, lighting, sculpture, police call boxes, gunfire sensors, and landscaped rest areas along it's length. It already serves as a lovely connection between the museum district and the Sawmill area.
Come enjoy the trail, and check out Tiguex Park, historic Old Town Albuquerque, and the museum district, all within a short walk from the trail!
